outdoor events

I have produced work for large and small scale outdoor theatre shows and events, designed and made huge props, processional devices, costumes, banners, site decorations, stages, devised produced and performed in shows and events, organised childrens parades and pageants, festivals, fire shows, and bonfires both in the UK and abroad. In over 20 years of work I have collaborated with many of the best artists, makers and producers in the field of street arts and celebrations

working in collaboration with richard broderick we produced the 'mortal orchestra' street show which has toured throughout the UK , Europe and the USA.The mortals are made using the catalan carton technique which Iintroduced to the north east after learning from catalan artists working with MIA in manchester.

 

I have made some full size valencian style fallas with richard broderick and lisa delarney . this one was for the hexham bonfire event which burnt before an audience of 17000. I also used it among other things for the head of a giant fish which was fixed to the metro bridge at north shields metro

 

 

 

and a set of 'gigantes' for 4corners music network as part of which I led schools workshops in Barcelona

I have worked with concrete in many contexts from massive public art projects to small ciment fondue castings. here are a couple of examples

I was a project manager and a lead artist with richard broderick for this sculpture which at the time (1986) was the largest public artwork in the north of england. constructed over a period of several months with a team of 15 people. original design maggy howarth, produced by freeform arts trust

I was lead artist and project manager in a collaboration with jyl friggens, angus watt and richard broderick for freeform arts trust. It has design elements inspired by an ACE funded visit to Nigeria where I researched indigenous architectural decoration
